YMCA Aquatics

The YMCA was home to the world's first filtered pool, and more importantly, the first group Swim Lessons. The YMCA has a long history and excellent reputation of teaching people how to swim. With lap swimming, open and family swim times, water exercise classes, swim lessons and the Gators swim team, the YMCA is well equipped to provide an enjoyable outlet of fun and fitness for the entire family. Swim Lessons                               

Parent/Child -

6 months - 4 years Parent participates in the water with the child.
   • Level PC1: 6 to 14 months Provides experiences & activities that help
      child feel more comfortable in the water, explore buoyancy, and learn
      safety.
   • Level PC2: 14 months to 2-1/2 yrs. Provides experiences and activities   
      appropriate for the moving toddler.
   • Level PC3: 2 1/2 - 4 years Prepares child for independent lessons.

Beginner Swimmers

Ages 3 - 6 years. These classes are designed for the beginning independent swimmer. Classes are 25 minutes long and held in the small, warm water pool.
   • Level A - Water Orientation: Ages 3 - 4.  Breath Control, Submerging,
                  Bouyancy, Swimming, and Water Safety. All skills done with support.
   • Level B - Water Adjustment: Ages 3 - 5. Further developing skills learned in
                  Level A. Skills done with minimal assistance.
   • Level C - This class is equivalent to Level 2 but designed to accommodate
                  younger swimmers. Skills done without assistance.
   • Level 1 - Water Exploration: Ages 5+. Comfort moving through the water, 
                  submerging & basic swimming skills Designed for participants who have
                  not participated in lessons before.


Progressive Independent Swimmers

Ages 6 and up. Classes are held in the large pool and are 40 minutes long.
   • Level 2 - Primary Skills: Float without support, recovery and 
      locomotion skills.
   • Level 3 - Stroke Readiness: Front and back crawl, backstroke and diving.
   • Level 4 - Stroke Development: backstroke,front and back crawl and
     breastroke.
   • Level 5 - Stroke Refinement: Front and back crawls at increased distances,
      side stroke, breastroke, butterfly, open turns and surface dives.
   • Level 6 - Combination of lifeguard readiness, personal water safety and
      fitness swimming.

Teen Experience

This program is for teens (ages 12 and older) that have never taken swim lessons, or would like to improve on basic skills. This class focuses on small group experience with participants in your age range progressing through skills.

Adaptive Learn to Swim - Click Here for Current Program Dates
This program is for participants with special needs in need of a one-on-one approach. Classes will focus on pool entries/exits, water adjustment, basic swim skills, fitness activities and games in the small pool. Instructors will be assigned individually to the participant and they can remain alone or join a class of similar ability.

Water Exercise Classes
The YMCA has many levels of water aerobic activities. Classes are included in your membership and offered on a drop-in basis. Feel free to stop by the swimming pool and check them out or ask for a tour at the time of a class you may be interested in to observe a class. Not sure where to start? Contact Pauline Alba 701.364.4167 for a class recommendation. Included in Membership.

Adult Learn to Swim - Click Here for Current Program Dates
   • Basic - This class helps you overcome fear or anxiety and teaches you
      floats and basic movements. Class lets you experience swimming aids.
   • Advanced - For swimmers able to swim 25 yards. This class will further
      develop your basic skills while increasing your safety.

Gator Adult Swim Team - Click Here for Current Program Dates
This program is for swimmers ages 19 and over who can swim 50 meters or more
without stopping. It is for participants who wish to stay fit or who aggressively
compete in swimming or triathalons. Gator coaches will be on deck to improve
stroke technique, endurance and speed. Workouts will be written specifically for

The Gators Swim Team is a competitive swim program that has been a part of the YMCA Cass & Clay Counties for over 50 years. The Gators have four training groups for ages 5 & up to accommodate all levels of competitive swimmers. (Developmental, Pre-Age Group, Age Group and Senior). Morning and afternoon practice options are available in the summer! Participants under the age of 10 and new to the Gators must complete the Insta-Gator program listed below before joining. Participants coming in from another swim team program should contact Head Coach Talia Butery for information on registering for the Gators. For current practice schedules

Insta-Gators -

This program is for participants who have taken level four swimming lessons or above. Emphasis is on learning and refining the four competitive strokes, gaining endurance and having fun! This program is also for those wishing to try the Gators Swim Team program, and anyone who would benefit from additional practice on level four or higher swimming skills. Ad the end of the program, coaches will discuss with each swimmer their ability to join the Gators. This program is required before joining the Gators Swim Team.


Gators Dive Camps - Click Here for Current Program Dates
These general dive camps will focus on all aspects of diving. This camp is perfect for the newest divers and the most seasoned veterans. The campers will focus on the dives they know and will learn new dives as the week continues. The camp is ideal for the diver who would like to prepare for their upcoming high school seasons and also for those younger divers wanting more experience on the board. Gators Private Lessons - Click Here for Current Program Dates
Gator Private Lessons will provide the one-on-one training you or your swimmer needs to get one stroke ahead of your competition! These private lessons are ideal for competitive swimmers of all ages and tri-athletes looking to drop time. The Gator coaches will work on any aspect of swimming that you feel you need improving on and look forward to helping you reach your goals. SCUBA Rangers & Snorkel Cadets

 

Unlike many sports, SCUBA diving can be enjoyed for a lifetime! Through this program, youth ages 8 and older can learn a skill that few possess, while building confidence, self-esteem and pride. All participants completing the training program will take part in a graduation ceremony and be invited to special events throughout the year to practice their skills and learn new things. Snorkeling Cadets learn the fundamentals of using a mask and snorkel, and also get to try the SCUBA equipment.
SCUBA Rangers learn the fundamentals of using SCUBA equipment in the water.
