Camp Koda

Activities and Exploration Day Camp

Ages 6 – 11 | Weekly Sessions Run June – August

Camp Koda now offers a new, fun, and unique experience each week that gives youth the opportunity to discover new interests, meet new friends, explore nature, enhance self-esteem, be physically active and create memories that last a lifetime.

Kids will unplug from technology and engage in activities, in a safe and fun environment, that keep them moving and build  social and independent skills.

Session 1: June 8-12 – Time Travelers
We will be travelling back in time to explore the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s. In each era we will learn a dance such as the twist and popular games like kick the can. We will also be travelling to Bonanzaville and Midwest Kids Fest.

Session 2: June 15-19 – Sports Galore
During this week, we will lace up our sneakers and be athletes as we play and learn more about different sports. We will also be attending a Red Hawks game and going to Skateland and the Southwest Pool.

Session 3: June 20-26 – Critters
This week we will act as zoologists while we study different types of animals. We will also have Zoo Mobile come to us and then we will be going to the Whapeton Zoo and the Plains Art Museum. This week is the only week where we will not be attending YMCA Camp Cormorant. Instead we will be going to Buffalo River State Park and to the MSUM Regional Science Center to study birds.

Session 4: July 6-10 – Wacky Science
We will be elbow deep in oobleck and use everyday materials as we create crazy fun experiments. We are also going to Buffalo River State Park as well as Yunker Farm and Rheault Farm.

Session 5: July 13-17 – Around the World
During this week, we will be filling up our passport as we explore different countries and learn more about their culture. We will also make a trip to Skateland and the Fargo Air Museum.

Session 6: July 20-24 – Nature Gone Wild
This week we will be diving into nature and learning more about plants and animals. We will go to Buffalo River State Park where we will do a nature hike and then head over to Lindenwood Park and do scavenger hunts! In addition to that, we will be going to Skateland and the Plains Art Museum.

Session 7: July 27-31 – Super Hero
We will learn what it takes and means to be a hero this week as the Police Department, Fire Department, Military, and Ambulance come and talk to us. We will also talk about volunteerism and will donate our time to the Great Plains Food Pantry. The children will also get to create their own super hero and make their own capes! We will also go to the Plains Art Museum.

Session 8: August 4-7 – Space is the Place
This week we will act as astronauts as we explore space and learn about the solar system and galaxies. We will also be making a trip to MSUM’s Planetarium and Skateland.

Session 9: August 10-14 – Wet ‘n Wild
Don’t forget your swimsuit! We will be splashing in water almost everyday this week (weather depending). We’ll break out the Kiddie Carwash and play some water games. We will also make a trip to Davies Pool, the Plains Art Museum, and Buffalo River State Park.

Camp Program – Our day camp is packed each day with activities that will keep minds sharp and bodies moving. Campers arrive at the YMCA between 8:45am and 9:00am and should be picked up at 4:30pm. Your child’s camp adventure begins at 9:00am each day. Extended care is available from 7:30am to 8:45am and 4:45pm to 6:00pm. (The fee for extended care is $1.00 per child, per time slot – am or pm).

Camp Activities – Each day will be based on the theme for the week, but include lots of adventure! Activities like swimming, crafts, nature walks, field trips, science experiments, culture diversity exploration, sports, music and much more. One day each week campers also get to attend our very own YMCA Camp Cormorant on Big Cormorant Lake, MN! There they get the full camp experience and even more adventure like horseback riding, water fun, ropes and climbing courses and more.

Camp Staff – The Y knows kids and we choose our staff  based on maturity, sensitivity, and proven abilities in relating to young children. They are excellent role models and care about children. The staff is selected to teach the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and health.

Camp Scholarships – There are a variety of financial assistance programs available to campers. The YMCA provides scholarships to families who are in need. Call Dee at 701.364.4153 for more information.
