Progressive Independent Swimmers

These classes are designed for the older, more independent swimmer. We have shrunk the class sizes of this group down to a maximum of 4 students per class. Classes are 30 minutes long and held in the large pool.  **Children must pass the previous level or be able to perform the previous level’s exit skills to register. (Goggles are recommended for Levels 4-6)

Level 1

Your child will be introduced to water skills, gain confidence moving independently in the water, begin to develop safe swimming habits in and around the water. For example, transitioning from their front to their back with ease while swimming is learned.

Level 2

Learn the fundamental swimming skills such as floating, recovering from a vertical position, and swimming under water. This class will build on previous levels, introduce swimming strokes and work on more water safety skills.

Level 3

This class focuses on stroke readiness, your child will learn the defined strokes such as the front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. Swimmers will learn whip kick, dolphin kick and be able to retrieve toys from the bottom of the pool.

Level 4

Stroke Development. Swimmers will gain confidence as they begin to swim further distances in backstroke, front crawl and sidestroke. Learn flip turns, tread water for at least 2 minutes and work on breast stroke.

Level 5

Stroke Refinement. Increase strength and endurance by swimming multiple lengths of front crawl and backstroke with flip turns. Water safety will include calling for help, the importance first aid and CPR, and dangerous swimming conditions.

Level 6

Focuses on personal water safety and fitness swimming. These experienced swimmers will be able to swim multiple lengths of the pool in each competitive strokes; front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Learn various forms of survival swimming.
