Savannah and Austin Swim Lesson and Gator Swim Team scholarship recipients
Savannah jumped into the pool at the age of 4 for her first swimming lesson, and there’s been no stopping her since.
Now 9 years old, Savannah is a passionate member of the
FM Gator Swim Team, with her membership made possible through a Partner of Youth Annual Campaign scholarship.
Savannah’s mom, Stacy, said that being a part of Gators has made a huge impact on her daughter’s life.
“She has gained confidence, become more respectful, developed great listening skills and has become more open to making new friends,” Stacy said. “Without the support of the YMCA we wouldn’t have been able to have Savannah involved in swimming and she wouldn’t have found something she truly loves.”
Savannah’s brother, Austin, has recently become a swimmer and Savannah likes to tease that maybe, if he works hard, he can make it all the way up to her Gator level someday!
Stacy is grateful for the role the Y has played in her kids’ lives. She has recently gone back to school for nursing, and said that scholarship assistance has meant that her kids can stay involved with the activities they love.
“I want my kids to have the same opportunities that I had when I was younger,” she explained. “Having financial assistance from the Y has opened up a lot of doors for us and other families who need assistance for a short period of time.”
Stacy added that she‘s grateful for all the individuals who have donated to the Partner of Youth Annual Campaign and provided opportunities for youth in the community.
“If it weren’t for people like you (Y donors), a lot of families wouldn’t be able to have opportunities to get involved. Thank you!”
