Kevin Torgerson joined the YMCA initiative Brighter Futures in January of 2017. Brighter Futures is a network of young professionals under the age of 40 who want to build Brighter Futures for youth in Cass and Clay Counties. Through this program, Kevin has been able to connect to the community and fellow members through professional development, community service, and social activities.
“I had been looking to join a group like this since re-locating to Fargo in 2015. I heard about the group through my friend Ben Jagim, and it seemed like a great fit. I’ve recently participated in a book club meeting, the YMCA Summer Food Program, and a mystery lunch with other members.”
Kevin loves that he can use Brighter Futures as a way to socialize with community members and having the opportunity to attend several events each month, and he believes the program is an important part of the Fargo/Moorhead community. He’s also been able to give back in a variety of ways – including bell ringing for the Salvation Army, and volunteering at Dorothy Day House.
“Not only does the program support the youth of our community through the YMCA’s various programs, which are the best in town, but it’s a great way to meet like-minded individuals and make new friends, which can be so difficult to do after college.”
Kevin loves hitting the stationary bikes and weight floor at the YMCA. Whether it’s to start his day off right or to blow off steam after work, he enjoys the diversity he finds at the Y. “Whether you’re a student, single guy, young adult, family, or senior, the YMCA has something for you.”
