YMCA Appoints New CEO

The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Smith as CEO.

Steve is a YMCA professional with over 20 years of progressive experience in both large and small YMCAs. Since 2009 he has served as CEO at the Manitowoc – Two Rivers YMCA in Manitowoc, WI.  He oversees a staff of 190, 50 full time and eleven directors. Steve increased the operational budget from $3M to $3.8M and increased the annual campaign from $115K to $245K.

From 1998 to 2008, Steve held various leadership positions with the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. As Executive Director of the Downtown Branch, he increased fundraising efforts to support educational opportunities of local inner city students in financial need by raising an additional $175K to increase program impact. Earlier as an Associate Executive Director, Steve consistently met and exceeded budget and financial development goals. As a result, the association asked him to step into another branch to refocus efforts in membership development and program management.

Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history education from Western Washington University in Bellingham. He is married to Marianne and they have two children, Marissa and Kenley. We look forward to welcoming Steve and his family to our community.

“We are delighted to have Steve join us as the new CEO of our YMCA,” said Rick Buresh, current YMCA Board President. “We are excited to continue to improve the lives of families and individuals in our community under his leadership.”

Steve will start with the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties on June 1, 2017.
