Keeping the YMCA Mission Alive

Last updated on Thursday, May 28.

At the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties we are dedicated to enriching the common good and making life better for individuals, families and our community. Since our origin in 1886, we have created unique ways to help our neighbors in times of crisis and prioritize our area’s pressing needs. Right now, we continue to carry out our mission every day. As our community’s needs have deepened over the last few weeks, our mission has become even more of an anchor that guides us as we support our community’s front lines and help our neighbors feel secure, valued, and hopeful.

Thanks to the incredible support from our community, the YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties has been able to provide vital community services at the forefront of the COVID-19 crisis:

COVID-19 Meal Program

During these uncertain times, the YMCA is providing suppers and snacks around the community to help ensure that children don’t go hungry. We want to help kids continue to be healthy in spirit, mind, and body by providing them access to healthy, nutritious meals, which are made available in partnership with the State of North Dakota and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Meals are distributed to-go-style every weekday FREE of charge to children ages 18 years and younger at multiple locations in the FM area.

Essential Personnel Child Care

Many essential workers are struggling with child care issues, especially with all area schools closed. The YMCA is extending a hand to the community during this time by continuing our child care services to allow families to stay in the workforce, as needed, and expanding our services to provide additional spots and extended hours for essential personnel, allowing them to continue keeping our community healthy, safe, and thriving. Care is available for children ages infant through fifth grade at multiple locations in the FM area.

My two young boys and I want to say thank you so very much for the COVID-19 Meal Program. How kind of you and how wonderful it is that you’re doing this. It’s helping us tremendously and it’s bringing many blessings to many families – you have no idea. – Joanne, COVID-19 Meal Program Participant Parent

The YMCA has generously kept their doors open during the COVID-19 crisis and has been providing not only amazing care, but also financial assistance. Without having this support, as a single mother, I do not know how I would have finished my nursing degree during this time! I want to display my deepest appreciation for all this program has provided! – Ashlie, YMCA Child Care Parent

I think the YMCA is doing a phenomenal job at communicating with members, accommodating financially, and planning appropriately for their reopening. The plan regarding reopening sounds thought out, organized, and cautious yet realistic. This company deserves to be recognized for their dedication to the community. – Lizzie, YMCA Member
