I have been with AmeriCorps for three years now and have loved every minute of it! Every day brings new challenges which help me grow, and the individuals I work with on a daily basis have helped shape me into the person I am today. Their enthusiasm and desire to learn to swim has helped me get through personal struggles and always bring a smile to my face. I would recommend the AmeriCorps program to anyone who has a caring heart and a desire to serve their community! It is a great program to be a part of if you want to make a difference in the world. The children I work with have impacted me and changed my outlook on life just as much as I have done for them!
I have enjoyed every moment of being a mentor! I have been working with a 7-year-old boy who has Down Syndrome for several months now. He has opened my eyes and made my not so good days turn into awesome days! I would recommend this job to others, especially anyone interested in psychology, teaching, or just love children! The Education Award will be helpful with paying off my loans, and this has been a great experience for me; I wouldn’t have done anything differently! The child I work with has changed my world and as he would say it, “we are best friends!”.
I strongly recommend anyone and everyone to be an AmeriCorps member! The program has opened my eyes to how a community can truly flourish when individuals have the positivity and motivation necessary to make an impact. Whether it’s reading to children and seeing them develop into strong readers, motivating runners at the Fargo Marathon, or mentoring at-risk youth, there is a way for everyone to contribute to the well-being of our community through AmeriCorps.
This program has not only given me a new sense of responsibility to help make the world a better place, but has given me the tools and knowledge in how to do so. I’ve grown in empathy, perseverance, and positivity through working with children everyday and encouraging them as a Homework Club Coach. The education award is an immensely helpful bonus, but I know that the children who look to me as their friend and role-model will always be priceless, and is the main reason why I am so thankful I chose to do this program!
I feel exceptionally thankful for the experiences I have had as an AmeriCorps member. The work I’ve had the opportunity to engage in has been both meaningful and fulfilling. In my effort to improve the lives of those I work with in our community, I have in turn improved my own. The kids I am lucky enough to work with on a daily basis have been inspiration for me to keep working towards my own career goals, and for that I feel they have had just as great an impact on me, if not more, as I have had on them!
I would recommend this program to individuals who truly care about making a difference in their community, and want the opportunity to have a profound impact on someone’s life. The AmeriCorps program has also been a great benefit towards my college education, which is how I plan to use my education award.
I have worked 3 AmeriCorps terms as a healthy living coach, and I recommend this position to ANYONE! I have had the opportunities to build relationships with children and lead them to live active healthy lives. Seeing the kids and parents out in the community, and having them come up and tell you how much you made a difference keeps me loving this position! AmeriCorps has allowed me to live out my life of service that I so enjoy. I get to give back to the community while paying off school loans! I plan on working one more term, giving back and getting things done for America!
