The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties offers Red Cross safety education courses. Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Trainings allow participants to learn life-saving skills and become certified for fun and rewarding jobs. YMCA aquatics staff even have the ability to work year-round! The YMCA also offers CPR/AED classes for adult, child and infant certifications as well as first aid. Attendance at all class times listed is mandatory.
CPR/AED & First Aid (combined)
Prepare for the unexpected and gain the knowledge and skills needed for effective leadership in the event of an emergency! This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving infants, children, and adults. Topics include how to recognize and manage an emergency situation, basic first aid, standard emergency care procedures and administration, CPR, AED, and more.
After completion of this class, you will be certified for two years in Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid for adults, children, and infants. All classes are OSHA compliant.

The American Red Cross introduces the new blended learning offering of the Lifeguarding program which combines online knowledge acquisition and in-person water, first aid and CPR/AED skills training. Building on the same knowledge and skills as our traditional in-person only training, the course trains lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. Topics include: water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and more. The program reflects the latest CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) science and findings from the 2011 United States Lifeguard Standards Coalition Report. Plus, the online format enables participants to complete interactive lessons and activities on their own time. Instructor- led sessions reinforce learning and emphasize skill building.

Lifeguard & First Aid Challenge Course (Recertification)
For American Red Cross certified Lifeguards who need to renew their American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certifications. Participants must be currently certified or within about 3 months of expiration. Participants will take the written test for Lifeguarding and First Aid training, as well as perform all the skills learned in a Lifeguarding class. There will be very limited review for this test so it is expected that participants have reviewed all information before attending this challenging course. This is an American Red Cross certification program.

Water Safety Instructor Training
This American Red Cross course is designed to train swim lesson instructors. Participants must be 16 years of age by the last day of class, and be able to complete level 4 exit skills. Pre-test of level 4 skills will be done the first night of class. Participants need to bring a one piece suit or swim trunks and goggles. On the Monday before the weekend class, an email link will be sent to each participant for the pre-course work – so make sure to submit a correct email address! Registration can be taken at the Member Services Desk of the Schlossman and Fercho YMCAs. Participants must register the Monday prior to each training.
